REED WHIPPLE St. George Temple president honored by Las Vegas City .Special tribute was paid to Reed Whipple, president of the St. George LDS Temple, by the city of Las Vegas. Nev. Tuesday when a cultural hall in the community was named after him. Tuesday at 2 p.m. a special ?ercmony was held to name the Cultural Center on Las Vegas Boulevard North in appreciation ap-preciation for Ws many contributions con-tributions to the growth and well-being of the city during the 20 years he served as a member of the city commission, commis-sion, mayor pro-temp as well is being a progressive busl-lessman busl-lessman and an outstanding ?iti7.en of the State of Nevada. Whipple moved t0 St. George in October 1970 when V was called by the Church if Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to serve as president the St. George Temple. The Cultural Center was originally built by the LDS Church to serve a'll wards and stakes in the area for special events. As the church grew the facilities became inadequate and the building was sold to the City cf Las Vegas. Currently it Is being used as a temporary City Hall and In Tuesday's special ceremonies cere-monies it was re-named "The Kted Whipple Cent-cr" |
