Show Region Eight Class A teams to open tourney Region Eight Class A basketball bas-ketball tournament will get under way Saturday evening even-ing at Dolta and continue into in-to next week. Four teams will be named from the three-day event to enter the State Class A tournament tour-nament to be held in March in Provo with only five teams in the Region vieing for the berths. The only outright berth in the state tournament will be the Region champion at the end of regulation play and that will be decided this evening eve-ning in a play off between Millard and Dixie who finished finish-ed in a tie. Meanwhile the remainder of the league, including the Cedar Redmen, will be waiting wait-ing the opening of the Region Eight tournament to determine deter-mine their fate in reaching the state classic. The Redmen traveled to Hurricane in action last evening even-ing to complete the league schedule for the current season. sea-son. Lots of .possibilities are still available prior to the opening cf the Region meet. Should Dixie lose and the Redmen win then the two clubs would be tied for second, and that would necessitate a flip of tse coin to determine seeding in the Region tournament. Here is how th,e Class A Region Re-gion tournament is set up. The Region third place team will meet the fourth place team in the opening game Saturday evening at Delta at 7 p. m. At 8:45 p. m. the second and fifth place teams will toe matched. Next round of play is slated for Wednesday, February 24 when winners of Saturday's action will meet winners and losers will meet losers. The team that loses Wednesday after losing Saturday will be the team eliminated from the tournament and will -be out of the State Class A Tournament. The tournament will conclude con-clude on Thursday, Feb. 25 when the winner of the winners win-ners Wednesday evening will meet the league champions for the tournament championship champion-ship and seeding in the state tourney. The other game Thursday will it tho win- ner in the losers . bracket against the soond night loser for third and fourth places. Officials iat Delta Indicated thta reserve seats for each evening will foe $2.25 for both games. Balcony general admission ad-mission session tickets will be $1.50 and students will be admitted to Uhe .games for 50 cents per session. |
