Show Bonneville's Depth: Key To Track Win Over Clearfield By DAVE WIGHAM CLEARFIELD Bonneville High used their super strength in the running events to run away from Clearfield 85-56 in a Region One dual track meet. WITH THE exception of the hurdle races the Lakers won all the running races. Clearfield Clear-field swept the 120 high hurdles and placed one-two in the intermediate hurdles. From then on it was all Bonneville Bon-neville who were led by their sophomore sprinter Marvin Ellis. Bob Eccord, Mitch Lower and Chris Mikesell gave the Falcons the clean sweep in the high hurdles with the winning time being 15.8. Chris Mikesell and Brian Johnson then came back to take one-two in the intermediate in-termediate hurdles with Mikesell winning in a time of 43.5. THE BEST the Clearfield team could do in the sprints were a couple of third places from Jeff Trussell. Jeff took third in both the 100 and 220 yard dashes. Junior Gary Dixon placed third in the 440 and another junior, Mark Wayment placed third in the two mile event. Clearfield took the 440 yard relay but the Lakers flexed. their long distance runners and took both the mile and medley relays. CLEARFIELD also swept one of the field events with three of their javelin throwers turning the trick. Scott Har-. Har-. tung won the javelin with a throw of 186-3 with teammates team-mates Kevin Jamison and Thayne Hill right behind him in second and third. Hartung then came back to place second in the long jump with another Falcon, Eccord, taking third. Clearfield's only other first came in the high jump with Scott Wallace going over the bar at 6-7 to win. Junior Bobby Clark also picked up points with a third place finish in the high jump. BIG BOB Berrera picked up some valuable points for the Falcons with a second place effort in the shot put and a third in the discus. Junior Scott Bohn picked up more points with a second place in the discus. The only other Clearfield points came from a third place finish from Bob Sant in the pole vault. Bonneville is considered one of the powers in track in the region and the Falcons gave them as good a battle as anyone else has. The Falcons have a lot of talented juniors who are starting to come on strong. |
