Show Lakewood's f Home Furnishings $ "Salt Lake's best furniture buys are in Bountiful." That has been the slogan of Bountiful's Lake-woods Lake-woods Furniture for years, and after af-ter 81 years in the business, the oldest furniture store in Utah is proving its true. IT WAS 1904 when Union Furniture Furni-ture first opened its doors at its current location. The name was changed about 1970, a creation of owner Richard Holbrook. "He simply noticed that you could see the lake from one side, and the woods from the other, and hence the name Lakewoods," stated audiovisual manager Jeff Knight. THE BUILDING, which underwent under-went extensive remodeling and exterior ex-terior work in the mid-70' s, is a historic site. It once housed an opera house and dance hall, as well as a storage locker. In fact caskets from the Union Mortuary were at one time kept in the building. But today, a wide variety of home furnishings and decors await customers as they enter the store. Lakewoods "features a full service home furnishing selection, complete com-plete from carpet and drapes to appliances, ap-pliances, audo-visual goods, bedding bed-ding and sheets," Jeff stated. "WE ARE now serving our third j( and fourth generations of custom- ers," he explained. "We spend a -m lot of time and advertising money pe trying to tell residents of Bountiful and Davis County that they don't have to go into Salt Lake City to find the best buys and selection. We have it here." 1 f |
