Show sors a Winter Camp for children with Diabetes in January and February, Feb-ruary, Camp UTADA, a summer camp is held in July, and two major fund-raisers are the Rodeo in June and the Bike-a-thon in September. There is no cure for diabetes yet. but the American Diabetes Association Asso-ciation is committed to raising funds for research while contintiiiiL: to support and give service to all affected by the disease. Diabetes: not understood Twelve million people in the United Un-ited States have diabetes, this includes in-cludes 38,000 Utahns with a disease dis-ease that is highly misunderstood and largely ignored until it strikes. THE AMERICAN Diabetes Association (ADA) is a voluntary organization dedicated to providing provid-ing patient and family services for those millions. Increasing understanding under-standing and awareness of this health problem is possible through research and education, which are primary functions of the ADA. The Association and its Utah Affiliate are promoting Diabetes Month which began Oct. 15 and continues through Nov. 15. The goal for this month is to get information infor-mation out to the public, to health educators, to schools, to people who have diabetes, and to people who have it but don't know if. THE ADA was founded in 1940 . as a professional medical society and then reorganized in 1969 into a voluntary health agency. The Utah Affiliate was established in 1976 to help accomplish the goals of the ADA through chapters set up around the state. The Utah Affiliate has year round activities and fund-raisers to give support to people with Diabetes Di-abetes and to gain assistance for research and education.
