Petitioning Pardon for iicl MONTREAL August 9Fully 5000 persons were present at the meeting in Kiels behalf held here this afternoon on the Champ de Mars It was resolved that a petition be sent to the Imperial and Canadian governments govern-ments to obtain Louis Riels pardon A meeting was also held at Lonquiel at which a similar resolution was adopted QUEBEC August 10A public meeting was held at St Sauveur this morning after high mass for the purpose of taking steps to obtain ob-tain a commutation of Rids sentence A large number of French Canadians were present and several strong speeches were made Resolutions in accordance with the object of the meeting were passed
