Ivory Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District News James Thorne, from the Soils Laboratory at Utah State Agricultural Agri-cultural College, was a visitor at the Soil Conservation Service office last week. He and John L. Swensgn, sgil scientist with the SCS, visited several farms in Duchesne and Vernal to in- j vestigate some of the soils prob-; lems peculiar to the Uintah Basin. Ba-sin. . ... ! Mr. Thorne is making a visit j to each field location within the state to become better acquainted ac-quainted with field conditions and to make it possible to fit laboratory recommendations to conditions found on the various farms. s C s Russell Philips, from Bennett, reports that he has completed some rock and brush checks to prevent erosion in the guliies on his fprm, , s C s Paul S. Hanson, Wm. O. Par-sen Par-sen and Louie Bqwden have installed in-stalled some prefabricated concrete con-crete headgateg on their farms to provide better control of the irrigation water and cut down on the shoveling of dirt dams. s C s A topographical map has been I completed for 300 acres of crop land at Leota. This covers the j farm land for O. H. Moore, Ern- j est Williams, Harry Pledger and Herbert Smart. This topog map will be used for laying out a good irrigation system and breaking' the fields into proper units for land leveling. This is all new land which has not been under cultivation before. s C s A. C. Wilkerson, of White-rocks, White-rocks, started leveling 10 acres of farm land last week. s C s The SCS office has been moved from the Huish building on the south end of Main street, to the Frandsen apartments, 3Vi blocks west of the Standard Cabins. Ca-bins. PMA and FHA also are moving their offices to this building. The move was made to provide better services to the farm people in Duchesne county. Offices will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a. m. to 5 p. m., and on Saturdays from 8 a. m. to 12 noon. s C s Fish for stocking farm ponds were supplied to Harry Ratliff, Mrs. Dorr Finicum, Hugh Col-ton, Col-ton, James Freestone, Dan Adams Ad-ams and Howard Calder. The fish were furnished by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service hatchery at Springville.
