Show I SOIL-AVERS SOIL-AVERS By THOMAS B. EVANS Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District News The District has received more requests for the assistance of Soil Conservation Service technicians tech-nicians than ever before at this time of year. When spring breaks, there will certainly have to be a lot of work done by these technicians to get around to everyone. It is quite evident that the farmers and ranchers of the Uintah Basin are preparing prepar-ing to increase meat and crop production by using conservation conserva-tion practices, such as land leveling, lev-eling, contour ditches, headgates, seeding new pastures, improving old pastures, building irrigation ponds, farm drainage and ths application of phosphate fertilizer. fertil-izer. sCs A shortage of tractors and carry-alls available for contracting- work for farmers held up much of the work last year. It is hoped that there will be more of this heavy equipment available avail-able this coming season. s C s The next time you are in Duchesne Du-chesne stop in at the bank and look at the Halogeton display. s C s There has been an SCS representative repre-sentative at each of the PMA sign-up meetings held this past week. These meetings were held at Alterra, Altonah, Bluebell, Duchesne. Tabiona, Arcadia, and Randlett. Contacting the farmers at these meetings saves much time and mileage, and in addi- tion, the SCS technicians can plan their work more efficiently when they know more about the farmers plans. g Q g The O. T. Hicken Ditch Co. has purchased the necessary pipe and steel needed for the construction of the siphon they are going' to install under Hick-en Hick-en Hollow. The siphon will be built this spring. Conservationist Grant Parrish held neighbor group meetings at the following places last week: Milton Woolley at Lapoint. La-point. This group is interested in installing a 'farm drain as soon as -spring breaks. Loren Ro'ss at Tridell. This group plans on doing some land leveling lev-eling and windbreak planting this spring. Julian Massey at Jensen. The discussion with this group was along the lines of planting windbreaks, drainage, planting irrigated pastures and improved irrigation water application. appli-cation. Some very good slides I were shown on these practices. |
