Show Telephone Co. Safes High ' En Driver Safely i j Recent nation wide publicity on the magnitude of traffic fatalities fa-talities left the impression that everyone in America who drives a car is out to set some kind of record for killing his fellovv man. Thatj obviously, is untrue, i In fact, the owners of large fleot of cars and trucks de-i de-i terminc-d long ago that traffic 1 fatalities were not the inevitable price of progress. They refused to accept the theory that the ' numbtr of traffic deaths must 1 increase with the number of vehicles. Experience has proved i that such accidents are prevent-, prevent-, able, and can be decreased by intelligent planning just as in any other endeavor. The Mountain States Telephone Tele-phone and Telegraph. Company has just completed its second straight year without one of the drivers of its more than 2,000 vehicles being involved in a disabling dis-abling injury. During this period, per-iod, its vehicles have traveled over 33 million miles, more than the average driver would cover in 8,000 years. That's quite a record, but the Company has not always been so fortunate. Mountain States vehicles have been involved in accidents. Some of them were ' major, but fortunately most have been relatively miner. , Some of the accidents were the employees' fault and some were not. Over a period of 51 years, and of the million deaths to date involving automobiles, only six have - involved Mountain States employees. But, the Company Com-pany takes the attitude that all : the accidents were avoidable and that six deaths are six too ' many. By careful selection of diriv-ers, diriv-ers, good training, and prevent- , ive maintenance, the Mountain States Company has compiled i its excellent record. The drivers profit by the program too, and ; their driving deportment either in a Company car or their pri- i vate car is usually a standard of courtesy. They are better citizens because they agree the Company's policy that "a good : driver never has the right of way" is sound advice for private pri-vate driving, too. |
