Show Sallai'4 Ellen Bracken Phone 62062 All Missionaries Of Ward Honored A program honoring missionaries mission-aries of 'Ballard ward was given Tuesday evening, Sept. 13, by the Junior Gleaners and the Junior M Men. Talks were given listing those who had served, or are now serving on foreign, stake and Indian In-dian missions. Two musical numbers were given giv-en by the young people of the two groups, and a good number of missionaries were present. Max Todd and Mr. and Mrs. Stolla took part besides all members of the two classes. Bishop and Mrs. Golden Collins accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Er-nest Betts, made a trip to Salt Lake City one day last' week. Mrs. Lola Christensen, of Vernal, Ver-nal, head supervisor of school kitchens, was at Alterra last week. Don Robinson of Salt Lake City, who is a salesman for the electric corporation, spent several days in the Basin last week. He was a guest at the home of his sister, Mrs. Blaine Enerson. Don was a former resident of Alterra. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Parrish made a trip to Washington recently. re-cently. Mr. and Mrs. Burton, of Susaville, Calif., have been recent visitors at the Parrish home. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Gines are purchasing pur-chasing the former home of the S. B. Kettles and plan on moving there as soon as some repair work is finished. The Gines have been in the Angus home for a few years. Glad to keep them in our ward. PREPARATION MEETING HELD All officers and teachers of the Relief Society attended a Preparation Prepar-ation meeting at the chapel on Tuesday, Sept. 13, where plans were made for the coming year's work. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Winkler, of Bluebell, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Todd attended Sacrament meeting Sunday evening. Miss Judy Sixkiller and Miss Joan Caudell, who planned on attending at-tending St. Mary's at Salt Lake City for the coming school year, are enrolled at Union High School. Mr. and Mrs. Bill McClure, who have been residing in Wyoming, are now living in the old Todd home, south of Jesse Hullinger. Mrs. Von Haslem and small son spent one day in Lapoint this week assisting her mother, Mrs. Sarah Norton, with her fruit. Mrs. Jesse Hullinger and small daughter, LaComra, left Saturday for Arizona to spend some time with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Brimhall. MISSIONARY REPORTS Ballard ward was very well represented rep-resented at the various sessions of stake conference. Sherman Asay one of our returned missionaries, was one of the speakers. Lynn Bracken, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bracken, who has been laboring in the West Central States has been released. He and his wife are enjoying a trip before be-fore returning home. Mrs. Ernest Lopez and family left during the past week for California, where Mr. Lopez has enployment. The children will enroll en-roll at school there. Mr. and Mrs. Elton Kettle, son Dennis, and daughter, Rose Marie, made a trip to Salt Lake City to consult a doctor for their children. Rose Marie has been very ill during dur-ing the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Todd, of Randlett, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wendel Johnson on Sunday. ENROLLMENT DROPS Enrollment at the Alterra school this year is 297 in comparison to the 311 enrolled last year. Mr. and Mrs. Les Mullins, of Salt Lake City, were weekend visitors vis-itors with Mrs. Eva Bell'on, and folks in Roosevelt. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Anderson, Ander-son, of Bell Calif., have been recent re-cent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Cook. Mr. Anderson An-derson is a brother of Mrs. Cook. Mrs. Alzina Johnston, of Salt Lake City, is visiting with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Seth Asay. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sprouse made a trip to Wellington, Friday, to see Mrs. Sprouse's sister, Mrs. Inez Thayne, who is ill. They went to Orem to visit Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ward. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Bartlett of Tridell, come to Alterra each Sunday Sun-day to hold a meeting with the Indians. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Horrocks, Mrs. David Horrocks and Mrs. Vernia Beecroft, of Murray, went through Ballard one day last week to attend funeral services for Mrs. Martin in Jensen. They were all former residents of Ballard. Mr. and Mrs. Gordan Evans and family, who have been living on the church farm, are moving to Salt Lake City, where Gordan has employment. The Evans were ardent ar-dent workers in the ward and win be missed very much. George Allred, one of the bus drivers and a helper in the school kitchen, went to Moab on Friday with the football players from Union Un-ion High School, and Bishop Leo Walker, of Lapoint acted as substitute. substi-tute. Hannah Hall, of Ouray, is staying stay-ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dean, and is attending school at Alterra. Jerald Hatch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hatch, who is in the armed forces, and has been stationed sta-tioned at Lowrey Field near Denver, Den-ver, is enjoying a 20-day furlough. He will' go to March Field, Calif. Mrs. Mont Poulson and daughter, Mrs. Arden Robbins, of Duchesne, were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Karl Shisler and daughters, Sunday afternoon. af-ternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Von Haslem visited vis-ited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Brown at Maeser on Sunday, Sun-day, Sept. 11. A. A. Call, of Vernal, was at the Alterra school on business and ate lunch with the students. Two of the mothers enjoyed lunch on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hatch made a trip to Grand Junction recently for fruit. They also visited Mr. Hatch's mother, Mrs. Zina Murray in Jensen. This week the Era drive will be on and the homes canvassed for subscriptions. A ryceum number was enjoyed by the students of Alterra Tuesday Tues-day morning. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Jenkins and family, of Tooele, spent the past weekend with Raymond's parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jenkins. |
