Show IMh Tips Union 12-6 in First League Contest The Cougars from Union High School lost their first league football foot-ball game last Friday to Moab, 12-6, as the two clubs opened the season in the Grand County city. Both teams showed moments of outstanding football stuff, and they also looked a bit ragged in spots. Moab scored all their points in the first quarter of play. According to Coach Ted Heath, Moab took the opening kickoff from Union and on straight football, foot-ball, went all the way for their first score. They missed the extra point. The Cougars received the kick-off kick-off following the Moab TD and rolled down field as if they were going to tie things up. Their scoring scor-ing threat was stymied by a fumble fum-ble which was retrieved by Moab. The second TD picked up by the host team came after Union was forced to punt when they were unable . to make the necessary yardage for a first down. Again the red-clad team used plain football foot-ball to score. Things were fairly even the first half between the two teams, statistically speaking, but the Cougars came back into the ball game the second half and outplayed outplay-ed Moab. They took the opening kickoff from Moab and made a quick touchdown on ground plays, mixed with a few passes. Jack Bailey went off tackel for the TD. The try for extra point failed and the score read Moab 12, Union 6, which is the way it ended. |
