Show Fire Destroys Grain On Friday Due to the uncontrolled grass fire, Boyd Winn had the misfortune misfor-tune of losing quite" a bit of grain on Friday. Mr. Winn had it stored in an old Indian house near his farm. Mrs. Julia Kettle passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Gardner, of Roosevelt, Roose-velt, on Saturday evening. She had been very ill for several months. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hewitt are the parents of another baby girl, born at the Roosevelt hospital hos-pital last week. ' Frank Bingham and Ensign Clark were down from Logan to spend the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bingham. Mrs. Pearl Jenkins, who has been in Salt Lake City for several sev-eral weeks, is at home with her son, Junior, and wife. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Brady, Jr. and daughter, Mary Ann, and Mrs. Fon Loucten and children, chil-dren, Jack and Mary, of Salt Lake City, spent last Saturday and Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Larsen. Mr. and Mrs. Mont S. Poul-son, Poul-son, of Duchesne, were callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shisler last Saturday. O'Dean Betts, who has had employment in California for some time, is visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Betts. Merrill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Rasmussen, had the misfortune mis-fortune to injure one of his arms , while playing at school, at Al-terra Al-terra last Friday. At first it was feared his arm was .broken. Mr. and Mrs. Zane Asay are acting as custodians at the Ballard Bal-lard chapel at present. Miss Janie Bernell, of Grants Pass, Oregon, is visiting with friends in Alterra. ' Mr. and Mrs. James Coston and family, of Ashley, spent the weekend at the' E. C. Coston home. Mr. and Mrs. Alton Johnson are the proud parents of a baby girl, born at the Roosevelt hospital, hos-pital, April 24th. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nash and family, of Vernal, were callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Simper on Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Bracken and Glen Womack motored iri from the BYU at Provo to spend the weekend. Mrs. E. C. Coston and Mrs. Carl Hall attended a special meeting for school cooks at the Union High School on Wednesday. Wednes-day. Most of the officers and teachers of the Ballard Primary attended the stake Primary Preparation Pre-paration meeting at Roosevelt on Saturday. We were all very pleased to see Miss Joan Angus at Sunday School on Sunday, after being confined to her home for some time because of illness. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Knowles, of Ogden, have been recent vis itors at the home of Mrs. Knowles' sisters, Mrs. Earl Winn and Mrs. David Lundberg. The Knowles are interested in buying buy-ing a home in the Basin. Mrs. Matilda Walquist, of Salt Lake City, has spent the past five weeks with her friend, Mrs. Alma Anderson. Mrs. Walquist was a pioneer of Ballard ward. Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Showell arrived from Salt Lake City just before Mrs. Showell's mother, moth-er, Mrs. Julia Kettle, passed away. Mrs. Showell had been with her mother so much of the time of her illness. Alva Snow, of the Roosevelt Stake High Council, was a visitor vis-itor at Ballard on Sunday morning. Mrs. Karl Shisler and baby daughter spent several days last week visiting with friends in Duchesne and with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mont Poulson. Mrs. S. A. Brighton and daughter, Marilyn, and Mrs. Russell Todd and daughter, Jo-ann, Jo-ann, were among those who enjoyed en-joyed Friday in Vernal at the school contest work. Edgar Womack and son. Harold, Har-old, left Sunday morning on a trip to St. George. The Primary officers and teachers met Sunday afternoon at the chapel for a song practice. prac-tice. Mrs. Clarence Betts was very pleasantly surprised when their son, Ralph, arrived home Friday Fri-day morning. Ralph was in the armed forces and had been at Okinawa for some time. He was at sea for over twenty days, and received his honorable discharge dis-charge before he came home. Mrs. Cecil Shivers, Miss Carol Page and Boyd Goodrich, three of the teachers at Alterra, took a group of their students to Vernal on Friday, where they presented a program over station sta-tion KJAM. Merrill and Reed Rasmussen, David and Anthony Lundberg and Donald Heed accompanied Samuel Hemingway, Junior Hicks and Boyd Goodrich, teachers at the Alterra school, on an airplane ride one afternoon after-noon last week. Keith and Max Todd and Lynn Bracken spent Saturday afternoon at Bennett practicing baseball. These boys anticipate playing with the Bennett team this coming season. |
