Show Legion Officers Elected For District Um At Fort Duchesne ftleet; 'Commander Lauds Work Of Posts Highlight of the Spring Convention Con-vention of District No. 9, The American Legion and Auxiliary, was the election of officers. Neal Connelly, commander of the Ft. Duchesne Post 126, was elected to the office of district commander. He has been active . . . - in Legion affairs, both in his i present post and in his native j state of Oklahoma, since his discharge dis-charge from the armed forces of World War II. He will suc-ceed suc-ceed Dale R. Ashby, Roosevelt, as district commander. William S. Murdock, of Roosevelt, Roos-evelt, was elected district vice-commander. vice-commander. Mrs. Joann Tolboe, of Myton, was elected district president, and Mrs. Cleone Robinson, of Roosevelt, first vice-president; Mrs. Thelma Dunsmore. Altonah, Alton-ah, 2nd vice-president; and Mrs. Pearl Shafer, Vernal, historian of the Auxiliary. The Legion and Auxiliary met in a joint session at the open-, open-, ing meeting, Sunday. Posts par-I par-I ticipating included Jensen, Ver-! Ver-! nal, Roosevelt, Neola, Duchesne, 'Myton, Altonah and Park City. Department Commander Dar-on Dar-on T. Duesler commended the district very highly for the fine programs carried on during the past year, and for being the only district in the department of Utah to exceed their membership member-ship quota. , During the main session, Kenneth Ken-neth Nickell was presented with his Americanism medal, awarded award-ed from District 9 for the winning win-ning essay. The Legion and Auxiliary separated sep-arated into their respective groups for their business sessions, ses-sions, with' Irma Sutteer, District Dis-trict 9 president, conducting the Auxiliary confab. Department officers present included Lona Watson, Cedar City, president; Eve Coakley, Salt Lake City, secretary; Pauline Hazelbush, Vernal, historian; and Roetta Kilfoyle, Kaysville, national executive ex-ecutive woman for the Auxiliary. Auxil-iary. Commander Dale Ashby took charge of the Legion department. depart-ment. At the close of the convention the delegates and guests were entertained by the Tribal Dance Team of Ft. Duchesne, and a delicious turkey dinner, prepared prepar-ed by the Frontier Grill, was served. Installation of new officers will take place June 6 at St. George during Department Convention. |
