Show ' "News Bits About Yesler-Years" 5 Years Ago Eastern Utah sportsmen will meet Saturday at Roosevelt to Jnnsolidate their forces into a trong association of eastern mah fish and game clubs, it L announced Wednesday by Wayne Malin, president of the Roosevelt Fish and Game Club. At a special meeting of the Utah National Parks Council rov Scouts of America, called to order in Roosevelt, April 25, bv Council President J. G. Jones of Provo', a reorganization of the Uintah Basin Section of the Council was effected. Elected Elect-ed to head the local Boy Scout movement were: Wallace Johnson, of Vernal, president; J. V. McLea, Roosevelt, Roose-velt, 1st vice-president; Homer P Edwards, Roosevelt, 2nd vice-president; vice-president; Paul Murphy, Roosevelt, Roose-velt, cimmissioner; Avard A. Rigby, Vernal, field commissioner commission-er for senior scouting. A family gathering was held ' Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Lemon in Ioka, honoring Glade Nelson, who' has just returned after spending the past year, stationed in Korea with the U. S. Army. 10 Years Ago Lt. Ferrell Wardle, a British fighter pilot, who has had IVi years of actual overseas aerial combat, received several medals med-als for combat service. Medals worn by him include the Flying Cross, second highest award given by England. The cross of Malta, emblematic of 100 hours of flying from that Island, and another medal signifying sig-nifying over 500 hours combat flying for England. Darrell Wardle left Provo March 11th for the army and at present time is stationed at Camp Hood, Texas, in the engineer's en-gineer's division. Mrs. Wardle and baby are staying with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Knight of Gusher. They are the sons of Mr. ' and Mrs. Allie Wardle, of Roosevelt, now of Provo. Mr. arid Mrs. Bert Swain, of Lehi, have moved on the 40-acre farm formerly owned by George Searle in Hancock Cove, also the 80-acre farm owned by H. B. Allen in the same location. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Markey, of Castlegate, visited in Roose-1 velt Wednesday and Thursday, I with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Sather. . Heber T. Hall, Jr. spent the weekend visiting with his parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Heber T. Hall. He is attending the BYU at Provo. 20 Years Ago In the student body election which was held Wednesday at the Roosevelt High School, the following officers for next year were elected: Madge Jacobs, president; Devoe Lambert, boys' vice-president; Vera Hansen, girls' vice-president; LaVoyle Wilkins, secretary; Floyd Smith, boys' athletic manager; Bernice Phillips, girls' athletic manager. The Roosevelt High School band of forty instruments is being prepared for the annual high school 'band contest at the University of Utah, May 5 and 6. The band played on the streets of Roosevelt this Thursday Thurs-day noon and will give a concert con-cert at Ioka Thursday evening. Wednesday, April 19th, at the home of Mrs. Mary Orser, the Business and Professional Women's Wo-men's Club members were entertained en-tertained for the evening, it being their regular banquet night. Mrs. Ray E. Dillman, who was operated on Monday at the Idaho Falls Hospital for gall stones, is recovering nicely. Dr. L. Miles and Ray E. Dillman went to Idaho' Falls last Thursday Thurs-day to Toe there at the time of the operation. |
