Show Ouchesne Tunnel Completion Set For Feb. 1953 Completion of the entire Duchesne Du-chesne Tunnel operation is scheduled by contract for Feb. 3, 1953. The contractor is close to schedule in his work to date, reports L. R. Dunkley, Provo River project engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation. This is the longest tunnei drilled in the history of Uian. The waterway will brin about 35 per cent of the water from the North Fork of the Duchesne River in Duchesne Comuy to the Deer Creek 'Reservoir. Holing through of tne vast engineering and construction iob was completed last December, with the concrete lining scheduled sched-uled to be completed approximately approxi-mately one year from that date. When the concrete tunnel is placed in operation, about 33,-000 33,-000 acre feet of water annually annual-ly will be carried from the Duchesne Du-chesne to the Deer Creek Reservoir Reser-voir for storage. The invert, or flooring, of the six-mile-long tunnel is tabbed for completion during June. Work crews for the private contractor are finishing the concrete con-crete lining on the invert. When the flooring- is finished, steel forms will be placed in the tunnel tun-nel and the concrete walls and ceiling will be poured, Mr. Dunkley said. From the Deer Creek Reservoir Reser-voir culinary and irrigation water wa-ter flows into the Provo River for Provo River water-users, and through the 42-mile Salt Lake Aqueduct for Salt Lake County water-users. |
