Show Northern Utah Described In Auto Magazine Salt Lake City, the valley surrounding it, impressive Wasatch Was-atch Mountains, Timpanogos Cave National Monument and the High Uintas Wilderness Area are all described in an article on northern Utah appearing in the September issue of "West-ways," "West-ways," official publication of the Automobile Club of Southern South-ern California. This particular issue of the magazine is unusual in that it contains a complete guide to America's great Southwest written writ-ten by one author, Weldon F. Heald, an authority on the lore of the land. The magazine describes in detail de-tail 21 recreational areas in the southwestern states of Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Mex-ico, Utah and southwestern Col-1 orado, under the general title, "Motoring Under the Arc of the Fabulous Southwest." Heald writes: "From the mouth of Emigration Cayon in Utah's high Wasatch Mountains the Great Salt Lake Valley stretches westward to' the horizon." hori-zon." "To this place came Brigham Young and his Mormon followers follow-ers on July 24, 1847. "The Mormons built well," the article continues. "Wherever one goes in Utah one is impressed impres-sed by the industry, thrift and resolution of these people" who made a fruitful empire in the Great American Desert." Heald has devoted two chapters chap-ters in the magazine to Utah. One is on the northern section of the state and the other describes des-cribes Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. |
