Stewart Elementary School held a Bicycle Rodeo last week, sponsored spon-sored by the school Parent-Teacher Association. Participating was Stephanie Smith, second-grade student. Assisting were Victor Iverson and Chris Gillespie, Gille-spie, Centerville Police Department; and back row, Diane Eyre, PTA safety commissioner; and Beverly Bailey, PTA president. The month of October is "I Care about Safety" month at Jennie P. Stewart Elementary, and the PTA has instituted several sev-eral new programs to ensure student safety; according to i PTAvPresident Beverly j Bailey. BESIDES the bicycle safety rodeo, arranged by Safety Commissioner Diane Eyre, an assembly on child safety was presented Wednesday, Oct. 13 by Chief Russell of the Centerville Center-ville Police Department. The Stewart PTA has also organized a Neighborhood Watch, and an absentee calling program, where parents of absent ab-sent children are contacted by phone, thus informing parents that their child did not arrive at school. " ALSO PLANNED is a parent education program on child safety. Members of the PTA Safety Committee include Susan Last, vice president; Diane : . Eyre,' safety commissioner; and Diane Neumann and Marsha Mar-sha Lyman, project chairmen. |
