"I hope the project will still go forward." FINAL PLANS for the project pro-ject were presented to the city council in last week's meeting hy the Redevelopment Agency (RDA) Director V.A. (Kit) Hettilyon. Included in the plans is the purchase of lands for the project pro-ject owned by the Department of Transportation and private parties, including the two acre parcel owned hy Triangle Oil. TIIK C'ONVKNTION-hotel center will be located just east of the 1-15 freeway, south of 500 South. The center will sit within the city limits of both Woods Cross and Bountiful, with tax revenue to be split by both cities. Ihe complex is planned to be built in three phases over the next three years, Mr. Hettilyon Hetti-lyon indicated. During the first pha,e 100 rooms would be built. 1 he completion ot phase I could be realized as early as June of I'M! opening the complex com-plex lor limited use. During phase II a convention center would he built and another HXJ rooms would be added on to the hotel. An additional 200-MXi 200-MXi rooms would be built during dur-ing phase III. IMF HOTFL convention center is also planned to house an indoor swimming pool, a restaurant, and tennis courts. I he complex is hoped to be part of a "major chain," Mr. Hettilyon indicated. Hilton, Hyatt and Sheraton are some names being discussed as franchises fran-chises for the project. THE DEVELOPERS of the center will be required to post $500,000 in an escrow account as a show of good faith. If the project iscompleted, it is expected to pull conventioneers conven-tioneers from around the country, coun-try, because of its prime location loca-tion away from big city crime. A $5,000 loan for the RDA was also approved during the city council meeting. The loan supplemented the $15,000 already loaned the RDA for the project. Mayor Urry indicated. indi-cated. In other business before the council, Brian Barlow was appointed to the city Board of Adjustments. Mr. Barlow joined the five member board, replacing LaMoyne Anderson. Ander-son. Mr. Anderson left the board because of his appointment appoint-ment to the city Planning Commission Com-mission last month. |
