Show Ellen Bracken Phone 62062 BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR WM. JENKINS Tuesday evening, March 29, a party was held at the Wm. Jen- kins home honoring Mr. Jenkins' " birthday. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hamaker and family of Bennett, Bill Thompson and son of Portland, Oregon, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Jenkins from Bluebell, Blue-bell, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Jenkins Jen-kins and family from Duchesne, Charlie Thompson and nephew of Vernal. Mrs. John Page and four of her family motored to Salt Lake City last week for Mrs. Page to attend Primary conference. They also visited with Mrs. Page's mother, Mrs. Charlotte Barthol-mew. Barthol-mew. Mrs. Vionne Parrish presented a i literature lesson Tuesday. The Primary classes have had ' sales on Tuesdays to help raise j their fund for the new stake chap-1 el. The sales so far have been quite successful. j ANNOUNCE NEW ARRIVAL Mr. and Mrs. Jay Simpson, of I Salt Lake City, announce the ar-! rival of a baby boy, born at the LDS Hospital, March 20. Mrs. Simpson will be remembered as the former Marjorie Wiscombe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wiscombe' of Provo, former Ballard Bal-lard residents. The officers of the ward MIA held their monthly preparation I meeting at the chapel Monday evening, eve-ning, March 28. Dennis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elton El-ton Kettle, has been down with the flu. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Gines, daughter, daugh-ter, Karen, and son, Jerry, went to Salt Lake City on Saturday to attend general conference on Sunday. Sun-day. Quite a few from our ward attended at-tended the funeral services for Arch Larsen at Roosevelt, March 28. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Butcher received re-ceived word that their daughter, Mrs. Earl Gillispie, of Loma, Colo., had just undergone an operation. A. A. Call from Vernal, was a caller at the Alterra School on Monday. Miss Barbara Hullinger accompanied accom-panied her mother, Mrs. Jesse Hullinger Hul-linger to Idaho last week. FORMER ALTERRA TEACHER DIES AT PROVO Students at the Alterra School and residents here were grieved to hear of the death of Mrs. C. C. Wright at Provo. She had been a teacher in the school and was loved by all. We extend our sympathy sym-pathy to Mr. Wright and family. Mrs. Berniece Nelson was out of school one day last week to be with her son, Richard, who was ill. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cook and family were down with the flu for some time. MR. JEPPSON LEAVES FOR PRINCIPALS' CONVENTION Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jeppson and family left for Payson Saturday Satur-day morning. On Monday Mr. Jep-son Jep-son left for Spokane, Washington to attend a principals' convention. He was accompanied by his wife. The children will be taken care of at the home of Mr. Jeppson's parents in Payson. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Bingham and family have moved to Neola. Mrs. Mary Collins went to Salt Lake City on Saturday, where she expects to visit with members i of her family. i Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Allred, of Salt Lake City, spent the weekend j - l at the home of Mrs. Allred's parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Squire. Earl Gardner, Eric Stolla and Alden White attended the broadcast broad-cast of the priesthood meeting at Vernal Saturday evening. C. Brian O'Neil, of Vernal, was a business caller in Alterra one day last week. School will be dismissed on Wednesday and we will have two days of spring vacation. There was a small attendance at Sunday School, due to some attending general conference in Salt Lake City, and others listening listen-ing to the conference over the radio. ' SPECIAL EASTER PROGRAM On Sunday, April 10, an Easter program will be presented at Sunday Sun-day School and an invitation is extended to all the ward to attend. Mrs. LeRoy Taylor, of Vernal, visited at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bingham, one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Rasmussen and family spent the weekend in Salt Lake City, visiting members of their family and attending conference. con-ference. CUB SCOUTS ORGANIZED In the organization of the Cub Scouts in the stake, Ballard had the second largest den. under the direction of Den Mother Ardis Kettle. Cubs in her den include: Brent Hatch, Jerry Gines, Douglas Kettle, Elvin Kettle, John Labrum and Val Dean Mangum. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Butcher and son, Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Butcher and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Butcher met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Butcher March 23 to honor Otis on his birthday. Bishop and Mrs. Golden Collins and Orlan Cook went to Salt Lake City to attend general conference. Squire Mangum acted in capacity of the bishopric in Sunday School. Mrs. Lynn Bracken spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Rowberry, also with Mr. and Mrs. John Clark at Tooele. She also attended some sessions of conference. BIRTHDAY DINNER HONORS CHAS. BINGHAM Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Brighton entertained at a dinner on March 26 for the following guests: Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Bingham and family of Vernal, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Snyder and family of Al-tonah, Al-tonah, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bingham, Bing-ham, Lynn and Neil Bingham. The occasion was in honor of Charles Bingham's birthday. A party was held at the chapel last Friday evening in honor of the outgoing officers of the Y. W. M. I. A. An enjoyable evening was enjoyed by those there. PRIMARY GIRLS CHEER SHUT-INS The Bluebird girls of the Primary, Pri-mary, under the supervision of their teacher, Mrs. Lawrence Brighton, prepared three boxes of homemade cookies and candy and took to three shut-ins in the ward to earn amerit. Those to whom they took them were: Dennis Kettle, JoAnn Angus and Mrs. John H. Cook. Mrs. Kenneth Sprouse returned Sunday from a short visit in Salt Lake City with her mother, Mrs. Hunter and her two daughters, Eva and Essie, who have employment employ-ment there. Uintah School employees who i had been associated with James i Trujillo of Vernal, formerly of I Whiterocks and Tridell, were shocked to hear of his sudden death last week, and we extend I our sympathy to the bereaved ! family. j Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wiscombe, i of Provo, formerly of Ballard wish to be remembered to their friends and also state how well they enjoy en-joy the Standard. DALE HAYES RECEIVES DISCHARGE FROM ARMY Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hayes and baby arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Von Haslem Sunday evening. eve-ning. Dale has been in the U. S. Navy, just recently receiving his honorable discharge. He and his j wife have been living in North i Carolina for sometime. At present I they will visit with Dale's parents. I They report the roads over the mountains in Colorado were very bad. Mr. and Mrs. EIRoy Norton and family, of Provo, were visitors at the Von Haslem home. They formerly for-merly lived in Ballard and Alterra. Alter-ra. Their son, Leon, is leaving for service soon. Visitors at the Haslem Has-lem home on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Brown of Vernal. EAGLETTES HAVE PARTY The Eaglettes of the 8th grade of Alterra entertained the ones of the 7th grade at a party Fri-i Fri-i day afternoon. The main feature I of the party was a Treasure Hunt for articles to be found in the neighborhood. The 7th grade girls were dressed in their uniforms. |
