UNTIL HE WAS 30 He worked in a carpenter shop and then for three years He was an itinerant preacher. HE WROTE NO BOOKS. He held no office. He never owned a home. He was never in a big city. He never traveled 200 miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. THE AUTHORITIES condemned His teachings. His friends . deserted Him. One betrayed Him to His enemies for a paltry sum. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. While He was dying His enemies gambled for the only piece of property He owned on earth His coat. When He was dead, He was taken down and laid in a borrowed grave. NINETEEN WIDE centuries have come and gone, yet today He is the crowning glory of the human race, the adored leader of millions of the earth's inhabitants. ALL THE ARMIES that ever marched, and all the navies that were ever built, and all the parliaments that ever sat, and all the rulers that ever reigned put together have not affected the life of man upon this earth so profoundly as has that One Solitary Life. r HE IS RISEN IN THE END OF THE SABBATH as it began to dawn toward to-ward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And, behold, there was a great earthquake; for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. ' HIS COUNTENANCE was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow; And for fear of him the keeper did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, "Fear not ye; for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was-crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead." AND WHEN THEY SAW HIM, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them saying, "All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. "GO YE THEREFORE, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." . . . Matthew 28. |
