Show College Students Gain 30-Day Induction Stay The Duchesne county draft board has received notification to postpone induction for 30 days of all college students who are being graduated at this time and are having their statutory postponements terminated for that reason, reports Porter L. Merrell, chairman of the local selective service board. Mr. Merrell stated this information infor-mation received explained the postponement as follows: "This 30-day postponement . is to enable en-able such graduates to obtain employment in essential industry. indus-try. Upon showing of such employment, em-ployment, local boards should be requested to re-open the cases of such registrants and consider classifications anew." If the act as amended is approved ap-proved finally, the young- man who remains in school until the end of the academic year, and who has not already enlisted enlist-ed in some branch of the service, ser-vice, would have the privilege of enlisting in the branch they desire to join. No change in the obligation of students to serve has been effected, only that they will not be drafted while still attending college. |
