Show Emma Sprouse Honored On 81st Anniversary An open house to her family and close friends honored Mrs. Emma Victoria Sprouse on her eighty-first birthday, which falls on Feb. 22. The party was held last Thursday at her home on that famous day in American history. Mrs. Sprouse was born 81 years ago, Feb. 22, 1870. in Weston. Onida county, Idaho, the daughter of James and Mary Jensen. She was married to James J. Sprouse in Nov. 1887, at Manassa, Colorado. They came to the Uintah Basin when it was first opened to home-steading home-steading in 1905. For many years the Sprouse family lived on their farm located lo-cated just north of Roosevelt, but later secured a home in town, where Mrs. Sprouse now lives, alone most of the time. Her husband, who died in 1944, operated a stage and freight line to Price for many years. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. James J. Sprouse, six of whom are still living. They are: Mrs. Cora Johnson. Mrs. Zella McGee, Harry and Kenneth Sprouse, all of Roosevelt; Roos-evelt; Lawrence Sprouse. Spokane, Spo-kane, Wash., and Bell Leonard, Anaheim, Calif. She has 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. great-grandchildren. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. |
