Street Lighting System Will Go On About Nov. 1 f- Roosevelt's new mercury vapor street lighting system, mounted the length of Main Street and on Lagoon Street, will be in operation in two or three weeks, or about Nov. 1, it was learned this week. City Councilman Ken Aycock said the system will employ a new and improved mercury vapor lamp, at least 10 per cent more effecient than the current popular models. The 38 light poles have been set and the units atteched to practically all of them, excepting only two or three units damaged in shipment. Stringing the wire and waiting for replacement of the damaged units will consume the rest of the time. .Cost of the lighting project is about $15,000, Mr. Aycock said. The Roosevelt Commercial Club has pledged $6,000 of this amount and the slate will pay about $7,500. The city -will pay th. remainder I out of its general fund, he said. |
