Show BASIN BRIEFS Mrs. Myrtle Lambert, home economic instructor of the Al-terra Al-terra high school has taken advantage ad-vantage of the opportunity given by the Red Cross to give her girls the course in nursing which Mrs. Lela McCrcight, the Red Cross instructor, is conducting conduct-ing in this district. The following girls are enrolled: Gwen Abcg glen, Wilma Bingham, Freda Bo-den, Bo-den, Betty Fisher. Winners in the Altcrra seminary semi-nary declamation contest held at Alterra on Thursday were Joyline Curtis, Bonnie Hullinger, Ona Bartlctt, Elmond Wilson, Eldred Wilson and Barney Sessions. Ses-sions. Mrs E. J. Nixon, Mrs Earl Dillman and Randall Stewart were the judges. Mrs M. J. Edwards, Ed-wards, principal, reports that the finals will be held at the Tridell chapel on March 31. The Alterra high school basket ball team went to Salt Lake Wed nesday morning to attend the state tournament. Some of the people of Roosevelt and vicinity gave the boys tickets and the school and the boys themselves made up the balance necessary to finance the trip. (Bill) Edwards, who has been on Guam for the past year, returned home Friday after being released at Ft. Douglas Doug-las on Thursday. He entered the Army Air Force in December 1942, and graduated from Lowry Field as a laboratory technician and mosiac specialist. He was then sent to Will Rogers Field in Oklahoma for further study find from there went to Florida. Later he was transferred back to Will Rogers Field and from there was sent to Guam. Mrs. Frank Jenkins, Mrs. Dave Jenkins and Mrs. Eugene Workman Work-man of La point were business visitors in Roosevelt on Friday. Mrs. C. M, Larson of Ogden is spending a few weeks at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George E. Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hoover have returned to Roosevelt to make their home. Mrs. Hoover is the former Carma Dee Harmston. Hazel Frizzell, a pioneer resident res-ident of Roosevelt, was operated on for a goiter on January 22 in the Mercy Hospital in San Diego, California. Her daughter, Mary Jess Johnson, a registered nurse recently returned from three years in Honolulu, was the special spec-ial nurse on the case. Mrs. Frizzell Friz-zell was returned to her home by ambulance January 31. She has returned to the Rees-Seally Clinic Clin-ic every week for treatment, but after a basal metabolism test the last of February she hoped to receive re-ceive final treatment and release from the surgeon specialist. Sgt. II. D. Gurr, son of Mr. and Mr. Hyrum Gurr of Haydcn was home for a few days visit before going on to Bessemer, Alabama, where his wife is residing. Sgt." Gurr has recently returned from Tokyo where he was stationed with the 11th airborn division. He received his discharge at Fort Douglas. Mr. and Mrs. Gurr will probobly return to Ilayden to ! make their home. Mrs. Jessie Robison of Portland. Port-land. Oregon is visiting here at thr homes of her sisters, Mrs. W. TI Ruppel nrd Mrs. George II. IIr.rri?on. Word has been received that Guy Bracken has employment in Overton, Nevada, where he is staying with his sister, Mrs. Woodie Marshall. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Bingham and family have moved back from Ogden where they have had employment during the past winter. They have purchased purchas-ed the store building across from the Alterra high school. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Yack attended at-tended the annual Beekeepers convention in Salt Lake City at the New House Hotel on February Febru-ary 28 and 29. The Bible Mission which has been conducting services in the Roosevelt hotel building, is now occupying quarters in the old Harmston building on Lagoon street. The Mission will remain at its present location until new rooms can be provided. Grant Calder of Vernal, recent-' ly released from the U. S. Navy, was a Roosevelt visitor yesterday. yester-day. Mr. Calder, who served as a lieutenant, senior grade, during his naval service, was formerly secretary to the president of the University of Utah, and a member mem-ber of the business school teaching teach-ing staff. He took leave of his scholastic duties to enter the navy. As a naval officer Mr. Calder taught gunnery at the officers school at Prinston university, and also served as gunnery officer a-board a-board a destroyer assigned to Atlantic convoy duty. |
