Show Union High School Bill Readied For House Approval A bill calling for a federal grant to aid in the construction of a new Union high school for eastern Duchesne and western Uintah counties has been drafted and is now ready for presentation to the U. S. House of Representatives. Represen-tatives. In a wire addressed to Attorney George E. Stewart, Congressman Walter K. Granger revealed this information, and requested supplemental data to strengthen the bill when it goes to the floor of the House. In compliance with Congressman Congress-man Granger's request Mr. Stewart Stew-art is taking steps to supply the supporting information and will forward it to Washington immediately im-mediately after it has been compiled. com-piled. Certain items needed by Mr. Granger arc 'available only at Salt Lake City, but reliable sources report that such data will be forthcoming within a few days. Although the exact wording of the high school bill is not yet known, it is believed that the federal grant sought will not be on the basis of a loan. Indications are that funds will be requested as an out right grant from the federal government to compensate compen-sate the proposed high school district dis-trict on the basis of the non-taxable public domain involved. Considering this to be the case, A repayment of the grant will not be required. The Union high school comit-tee comit-tee has announced that on Wednesday, March 20, at 8.00 p. m. a mass meeting will be held in the elementry school gym in the interest of the pending bill. Discussions relating to the new high school and to the already drafted bill will be conducted. The meeting seeks to obtain public pub-lic feeling and public expression in the matter. Residents who will be affected by the Union high school are asked to be present and to make known their views. The committee has further announced an-nounced that it will seek the active ac-tive cooperation of all those who will be in attendance, by asking hem to wire or write Utah's congressional con-gressional delegation urging passage pas-sage of the high school bill. 1 |
