Show TnE PRIVATE PAPERS OF PRIVATE PURKEY Dear Harriet-Well Harriet-Well Congressman, Clare Luce :ame to the front and fired a howit-:er, howit-:er, but them Germans is still relisting re-listing and it looks like we would lave to try something else. I was ;ery diserpointed by the results. Miss Luce fired the gun okay. Her form was good and her rhythm was pretty fair. Also so far as we know e gun was alright. We all waited breathcrlessly on tccount of this was the first time iny gun with so much person-ility person-ility behind it had been used in the war. Also never before had a runner been so perfectly dressed, villi no flaw in the style nowhere. The lady wore a regulation officers coat and pants, with ski - shoes, feoolen socks, a dotted kerchief ft-ith muffler to match and earrings. (It was the Erst experiment with tarrings by either side so far.) Well, like I said we all waited for big results but nothing special aappened. There was the same explosion, ex-plosion, roar and distant explosion but no white flags. Sergeant Moon-y Moon-y says the Krauts did not know who was firing that howitzer and that jut side fell down in not notify- ng them. He says if the Krauts ' lad anybody a half as good looking is Clare Luce behind a gun Goeb-jels Goeb-jels would of been warning the whole world about it for weeks in idvance, I feel better about the whole war. ( hope Miss Luce sticks around and .hat in the next campaign we get Mrs. Lydig Hoyt and Lana Turner. All my love, Oscar. j |
