Show Finals Held In M. I. A. Contests Hie stake finals in the four Mutual Mu-tual Improvement Association activities, ac-tivities, Drama, Speech, Story and Dance were held Monday and Tuesday Tues-day nights. On Monday night the drama finals took place in Firmage Hall, with three of the six wards of the stake entering, viz., American Fork First, Second and Third wards. The Second ward won first place. All three wards presented the same play "Friend of the Family." The judges were from Provo, Mrs. Sterling Erckenbrack and Mr. Broad-bent. Broad-bent. Tlis winning cast consisted of Bernice Wilde, Bessie Kelly, Madeline Ma-deline Robinson, Violet Peters, Melissa Me-lissa Christiansen, Miriam Young, Dayton Healey, James Preston an Phil Harrington. Mrs. Lena Pearson Pear-son was the director. A very creditable cred-itable presentation was given, however, how-ever, by each of the other two wards. Miss Mary Ashby was the coach of the Third ward play and Mrs. Nona Gaisford and Miss Myrtle Myr-tle Bigelow coached the First ward players. Miss Mary Pulley of the stake Drama department took charge. In the Tuesday night finals held in the tabernacle, Miss Hazel Anderson An-derson of the First ward won first place in the Junior girls Re-told story division. Phil Jensen, of the Fourth ward1 was the winner in the Vanguard story contest; Miss Dorothy Dor-othy Grant, Fourth ward, took first place in the Gleaner Speech contest, con-test, and Stanford Steele, First ward, won the M. Men's Speech contest. con-test. The contestants in order of appearance ap-pearance were as follows: Junior story Miss Hazel Anderson, Ander-son, First ward; Miss Fern Robinson, Robin-son, Fourth ward, and Miss Irene Giddings, Third ward. Vanguard story Glen Noble, First ward; Phil Jensen, Fourth ward. Gleaner speechr-Miss Catherine Shelton, First ward; Miss Dorothy Grant, Fourth ward; Miss Beth Mc-Daniel, Mc-Daniel, Alpine. M. Men speech Leroy Terry, Alpine; Al-pine; Stanford Steele, First ward; Glen Gordon, Third ward. The judges in these events were Sherman Christensen, Mrs, Lorna Maycock and Miss E. Bennett, of Provo. Edgar Booth, stake speech and story leader, was in charge of the contests. , Announcement was made by Mrs. Mary Halliday, stake Y. L. M. I. A. president, of the splendid record of activity achievement by the wards of a possible seven "A" standards, the attainment was as follows: First ward 6 "A" standards. Second ward 5 "A" standards. Third ward 7 "A" standards. Fourth ward 5 "A" standards. Alpine ward 6 "A" standards. The standards are In the activities activi-ties of Drama, Gleaner Speech, M. Men's Speech, Junior Story, Vanguard Van-guard Story, Music and Dancing. Following the speech and story finals, a demonstration of .the contest con-test dance was given in the Amusement Amuse-ment Hall by two couples: Miss Bessie Kelly and LuZell Chipman of the Second ward; Miss Beth Hutchings and Gilbert Shumway of the Third ward. Mrs. Dessie Wilde, stake dance leader, was in charge. The winners of the contests together to-gether with the dance couples will represent Alpine stake in the district dist-rict contests to be held in Provo, May 23rd, when six stakes will compete. com-pete. o- |
