Show V Mrs. Retta Thornton Dies Thur. Morning Mrs. Retta Thornton, 79, widow of the late Oliver Thornton, died at her home on the East State Road at 8:45 a. m. Thursday following a short illness of pleurisy and complications. compli-cations. The deceased was born at Toms River, New Jersey, December 25, 1854. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. George Holman, Salt Lake; Mrs. William Peterson, Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Tom Crookston, American Fork; and Mrs. Tom Wilson, Garfield; Gar-field; and two sons, Owen of this city, and Ira J. of Kuna, Idaho; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Thornton of this city and a brother in Idaho. Thirty grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Thornton came to Utah with her parents in 1861 locating first in Salt Lake City. In 1862 they came to American Fork where she has since resided. She was married j to Oliver E. Thornton February 15, 1 1873, in the Old Endowment House, i Nine children were born from this I union, six of whom survive. She has been a consistent church worker work-er and for twenty-five years was a Relief Society worker. Funeral services will be conducted conduct-ed on Saturday at 2 p. m. in the American Fork First ward with Bishop Greenwood officiating. The remains may be viewed at the residence resi-dence from '10 a. m. to 1:30 p. m. on Saturday. |
