Show City to Equip FERA Office Other Business The local committee on FERA was present Saturday at the regular council meeting, Thomas Fenton, Ethel Drysdale, and C. E. Young comprising it. Mrs. Drysdale asked the city to furnish this committee with an office equipped with telephone, tele-phone, typewriter, adding machine, etc., that they may perform their work efficiently. She stated other places had such offices and that some of the work for the North end of the county is being done through the Orem City office. She also asked that the city help in defraying defray-ing the expenses of the local committee com-mittee in the way of gas and oil. She also asked that some projects be outlined for women and that the city pay insurance for the women workers. Mr. Walker moved that arrangements to equip an office for FERA work be made. The motion was seconded and carried and the matter left with the city property committee. Mr. John Christensen was present and informed the council he was unable un-able to water his crops as the ditch to his property had not been cleaned. Mr. Johnson moved that Mr. Loader, Load-er, chairman of the Irrigation, get in touch with the Pleasant Irrigation Irriga-tion company and have them clean the ditch running west from the Arrowhead Ar-rowhead Service station to Mr. Christenson's property. Mr. H. E. Johnson recommended projects for FERA work to include all parks and the city cemetery. He asked that a sidewalk be made from the U. P. station to the lower park and suggested that the present pres-ent property and buildings owned by the city be sold and that a new building be erected to accommodate all departments. Junius A. West, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and H. P. Jones asked that May 25th be set aside as Strawberry Day and that) the C of C be granted the privilege i of selling concessions, the use ofj the park, that Main Street be' closed from Second West to State and for other privileges that would tend to make the affair a success. They asked that the mayor apoint special police officers for the occasion. occa-sion. Mr. Clark moved that the request re-quest of Mr. West and Mr. Jones be granted, which motion carried. Mr. Carlyle Larson was present and asked that he be allowed to sell ice from the Wasatch Service wagon located on the Southwest South-west corner of Pioneer Park. Mr. Clark moved that Mr. Larson look for a suitable place to locate his wagon other that at the park and that the Streets Committee would co-operate with him. Mr. Loader seconded the motion which carried. Mr. Walker reported that the spray material was now ready to 'spray the White Top and Morning Glory on the streets and would be taken care of soon. He drew attention at-tention to several bumps on the streets caused by work done in the Waterworks department. Mr. Walker stated that an Investigation Investi-gation had been made relative to moving the bell from the City Hall to the Fire station and that it would cost around $50.00 to install it, not counting the cost to remove it from the present location. He mentioned equipping it so it could be rung from the telephone office, in case of fire. Mr. Loader reported he and Mr. Walker had attended an irrigation meeting at. Provo headed by Mr. Clyde and that he had reported a serious shortage of water and that some means should be worked out to obtain more if possible. He suggested sug-gested driving wells. Mr. Loader and Mr. Walker felt that the Pleas-Pleasant Pleas-Pleasant Grove Irrigation System should apply for $15,000 for this purpose. Mr. Clark moved that the treasurer treas-urer leave the tax money she is receiving re-ceiving for 1934 In a special fund until the 1934 levy is made. The motion was seconded and carried. Mr. Loader reported he had been approached relative to doing away with the fruit stand located on State Street between Main and First South. The Mayor and Council felt this is a means of furnishing some one with employment and also of disposing of a considerable amount of fruit. The matter will be investigated. Mr. Clark moved that the marshal be allowed gas and oil to enfore the collection of dog taxes. The motion mo-tion was seconded and carried. Mr. Walker moved that the recorder re-corder inform the State Industrial Commission that the Pleasant Grove Municipality would arrange to comply with Resolution No. 1347 j and pay hourly rates of wages In i accordance therewith.
