Show Donna Brock speaks out on environment at January 18 Garden Club meeting The Garden Club of Pleasant Grove was honored to hear from Donna Brock at their January 18th meeting. Mrs. Brock, a former councilwoman for Pleasant Grove, and member of the Garden Club, spoke on Environmental Problems. She began by reminding everyone that we owe a debt of gratitude to our Pioneers for the heritage and work they did that we might have a better city and way of Ufe. She praised the men who have given of their time such as Leo Harvey and those who assisted him in working on our water system and the people who have done such a tremendous job in building City Recreation for our town. She mentioned all the past mayors and gave special mention to Jack Cook and his contributions to our citjs growth. Mrs. Brock named the usual problems we have in our enviornment such as: air and water polution, noise, soil, nuclear, animals, litter and garbage. She said every responsible citizen should take . a tour of our sewer system plant to appreciate what a big problem sewage is to a city and how it is being handled. Roads, recreation, population growth and police protection were other problems mentioned. Mrs. Brock said one important means to handle the problems in a city is in City Planning. But most important is in educating through the schools. She would like to see a continuance of neighborhood cleanups and having Beautifica-tion Beautifica-tion Awards. She then underscored her whole talk on the importance of "Setting the Example." Those who had the opportunity to attend this meeting were rewarded in their time being well spent. The meeting was hosted by Moya Told and Veatrice Stewart. Conducting was Club President Fae Belliston. Lovely refreshments were served. The next Garden Club meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 15th at 1 p.m. at a floral shop. Those wishing to form a car pool please meet in front of the Recreation Building next to the Community Center downtown at 12:45 p.m. The Garden Club wishes to extend a welcome to anyone interested in our meetings which are usually held the third Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. in the Recreation Building in Pleasant Grove at 53 E. 2nd S. Note: The Garden Club is celebrating its 33rd birthday in February. |
