Timpanogos." Alpine Valley Care Center residents to make "assault" on Timpanogos On February 1, 1984 five elderly residents from Alpine Valley Care Center, Pleasant Grove, Utah, kicked off their fund raising effort for the Heart Fund in conjunction with the Rock and Roll Jamboree sponsored by The Utah Health Care Association. The assault is, of course, figurative in nature. The residents will be doing their walking within the Care CY"W in response to dollars donated by others to the Heart Fund. The residents have set a goal of $200. One of them will walk the 244-fo-length of the building for every dollar donated to the Heart Fund. The walking may be done with the help of a walker, with the assistance of a nurse aid or in some instances in a wheelchair. Thus, as the residents help the Heart Fund, they will also be helping themselves by getting much needed exercise. Please make checks payable to the Heart Fund and mail to "Winter Assault on Mt. Timpanogos" co Alpine Valley care Center, 25 E. Alpine Drive, Pleasant Grove, UT 84062. All contributions will be appreciated. Donna Brock speaks out on environment at January 18 Garden Club meeting The Garden Club of Pleasant Grove was honored to hear from Donna Brock at their January 18th meeting. Mrs. Brock, a former councilwoman for Pleasant Grove, and member of the Garden Club, spoke on Environmental Problems. She began by reminding everyone that we owe a debt of gratitude to our Pioneers for the heritage and work they did that we might have a better city and way of Ufe. She praised the men who have given of their time such as Leo Harvey and those who assisted him in working on our water system and the people who have done such a tremendous job in building City Recreation for our town. She mentioned all the past mayors and gave special mention to Jack Cook and his contributions to our citjs growth. Mrs. Brock named the usual problems we have in our enviornment such as: air and water polution, noise, soil, nuclear, animals, litter and garbage. She said every responsible citizen should take a tour of our sewer system plant to appreciate what a big problem sewage is to a city and how it is being handled. Roads, recreation, population growth and police protection were other problems mentioned. Mrs. Brock said one important means to handle the problems in a city is in City Planning. But most important is in educating through the schools. She would like to see a continuance of neighborhood cleanups and having Beautifica-tio- n Awards. She then underscored her whole talk on the importance of "Setting the Example." Those who had the opportunity to attend this meeting were rewarded in their time being well spent.
