Show 'Damn Yankees' entertaining By MARCELLA WALKER Hooray for the Washington Senators! Although the Yankees are in the title of this popular musical it is really the Washington Senators who hold the spotlight. "Damn Yankees" is being performed at the Alhambra Theater in Pleasant Grove until Oct. 29. Performances are Friday and Saturday nights at 8 o'clock and on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. The team members of the Senators are completely entertaining. Great dancers they are not, nor are they the best singers in the world but they are completely entertaining. While them performing in this delightful show. Helen lteaman made a perfect Ixila. What a figure for the mother of three children! Of all the singers she had the finest voice. She danced and sang very convincingly. Produced by Cathy Johnston, the show is enjoyable to the audience. Performers appeared in the audience during intermission selling such saleable commodities as pears (?) and apples. All the girls hearts were stolen by Doug Jolley who played the role of Joe Hardy, the ball player caught in the clutches of Mr. Applegate and who saves the day for the Washington Senators." Other cast members include Bruce lioaman, Ijnda Madsen, LaDawn Menlove, Shayne Young, Brad Graff, Chad McBride, Keith Judd, Todd Farris, Bill Schuler, Ann Chrisman, Tanya Johnson, Tiffine Menlove and Jenny Menlove. Many of the cast members serve on the production c rew. Others who are on the staff are Mark Steven Gelter, Judy M. Osborne, Meredith Manzaneros and Brian Powell. Cathy said that this weekend there will be a deer hunter's widow special with two ladies attending for the price of one. Monday night ticket rates are now $2.50 per ticket to accomodate families. they are pn stage they steal the show and deserve it. Joel Osborne, a well known actor in these parts of Utah, does a most professional portrayal of Mr. Applegate. He also directs the production. His ability as an actor is far and above that of some of the newer performers but he still fits right in. Another outstanding performer was Kathy Fink who plays the role of Sister. She is very convincing and is very funny. She was a delight. Will Hazlett as the Manager Van Buren looks like he could be a real baseball manager. We'd vote him into the job in a minute. Gloria, played by Naedal Menlove, could have used a mike or sung louder as it was difficult to hear her song. Her speaking parts were heard well, however. Hometown boys, Brad McElhinney and Scott Barrett did a good job and it was fun to see |
