Spanish seemed unshaken by the quick Viking touchdown and in less than a minute the Dons tied the score with Scott Hanks running 35 yards to paydirt. For the next 10 minutes neither team could mount a drive that would produce points and the first quarter ended 7-7. PG took the lead for good early in the second period. In 9 plays the Vikes covered 50 yards with Shawn Story going the final 3 yards up the middle. Norman's kick made it 14-7. The Vikes were warming up for a final one minute burst that would put the game out of reach. The big Don defense held PG and the Vikes were forced to punt from their own 15 yard line. Shane Phillips got off a good kick that turned out to be great one. The twin Don punt returners did the old "I got it you take it routine." Phillips 40 yard punt dripped between the two red shirted Spanish Fork players and took a terrific PG bounce. The end over end spin caused the ball to roll another 35 yards for a 75 yard punt! lad by Mike Sumner, Brad Kitchen, Shawn Nuttal and the everywhere Phil Cook the PG defense held Spanish and forced the Dons to give up the ball with a punt. PG took over on their own 42. Scott Mosher caught a Neil Peterson pass good for 13 yards and then Corby Morris raced 27 yards on a draw. Two plays later, ' Story bulled into the end zone and Norman added another kick to put the Vikes on top 21-7. The game clock showed just 25 seconds in the first half when Story scored. After Cook's kickoff, the Dons tried a pass and Norman intercepted Kent Harlcy's attempt with 14 seconds to play. With time running out, the Vikes reached deep into the trick play bag. Eric Thomas pitched to Morris on an apparent end sweep. Hut Morris handed the ball to Mosher on what looked like a reverse. But Mosher abruptly stopped - and pitched the ball deep to Thomas who lofted a perfect pass to a streaking Norman in the end zone. That play broke Spanish Fork's back making the score at halftime, 27-7. Late in the fourth period, Joel Johnson scored a second Spanish touchdown but that was only after the Vikes had added another score in the third period. Before Johnson's 34 yard run for the Dons, Thomas had read the option perfectly and kept the ball and had run 17 yards untouched for the Viking TD. The final PG touchdown was set up by a Peterson interception just when it looked like the Dons were putting together a third period scoring drive. The win gives PG a 3-1 Region 8 record to take into tomorrow night's game at Payson.
