CLUB MED S fust U.S. ski esort tucked . the Colorado Rockies about 75 miles west of Denver. Both crossc-ountry and downlull .nstruc Uos are part of the everything-for-one-pric- e formula always associated wk dub. Cross-countr- y enthusiasts w.H f.nd i2 miles of groomed trails just waiting to be explored. Club Med offers a French ski village for variety Last winter, there were 315 inches of frothy, powder snow at Copper Mountain. Everyone was talking about the great ski lessons. This year, the forecast is for even more. But, that's really not unusual. The average snowfall for Copper Mountain ranges between 250 and 300 inches. And, there's never been anything average about Club Med. From its choice of location to the calibre of its sla instruction. From its host of activities French lessons, computer classes, dance and bridge lessons to its lavish meals and lively evening entertainment. The i Club's only U.S. ski village is taring to begin its fourth season in Colorado's high country on December 17, 1983, continuing until April 6, 1984. New ski facilities this year include the addition of the "S" lift at J Union Bowl. With the opening of this additional section of the Bowl, the total number of trails on the jnountain - have been increased from 56 to 69, and experts will now have a crack at some exciting bowl skiing, along with beginners and intermediates. Dedicated to offering a problem-fre- e Winter ski spree, Club Med's ski vacation is just that. Everything is paid for ahead of time. Members arrange for their own flight to get themselves to Stapleton International Airport in ' Denver on the specified arrival day. They will be met and transferred on a group basis by bus to the Club Med village, 75 miles west of Denver for a fee of $30 per person round trip. Then the Club takes over. Comfortable, twin-bedde- d accomodations with private bathroom (tub and shower); three tasty meals daily highlighted by French and continental touches with free wine at lunch and dinner. A Mini Club program of organized activities and skiing for children 4 12 years of age. A May lift pass. Computer Workshop (12 Atari computers), French lessons, bridge instruction, aerobics, jacuzzi, saunas and superb powder skiing along d runs that never crowd up are all part of the package. The most important ingredient of any Club Med ski vacation (there are 20 more winter villages in the European Alps) is the ski instruction. Here, Club Med shines. Two hour classe in the mornings and afternoons, Monday through Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon is dedicated to free skiing or expeditions to Vail or Breckenridge. Upon arrival, each person is evaluated and then put in a class with students of like ability, skiing with the same instructor all week.' Both downhill and cross-country classes are offered with top-notc- h equipment (Rossignol skis and Nordica boots) for rent at the Club, at a small fee. Ski classes are video taped on a regular basis with analysis of each student's performance made by the instructor in the evenings. A free lift ticket is also part of the package. Apres ski, there are four outdoor jacuzzi commanding a view of the entire valley and two indoor saunas. Ice skating on a lighted, outdoor pond; aerobics; yoga; bridge; French classes; and fully-equippe- d Atari Computer Workshops (12 computers and plenty of hardware and software) with knowledgeable G.O.'s to get novices started. Mini Clubbers, children 4 - a special area of the Club all to themselves even their own ski instructors. Early lunches and dinners are planned. In addition to skiing, there are snow sculpture contests, sledding, arts and crafts; games; hikes; nightly entertainment, etc. all under the caring and watchful eye of special "G.O.'s" (staff members). Copper Mountain boasts a summit elevation of 12,250 feet and a vertical drop of 2,650. Approximately 69 trails range over 850 skiable acres. The longest run totals 2.5 miles. Because novice, intermediate and advanced trails have been laid out along separate sections of the mountain, no one gets in anybody else's way. 29 of the runs are geared to beginners; 40 to intermediates; and 31 to advanced. Cross-countr- y fans have 22 miles of marked trails. Should there ever be a problem with Mother Nature, extensive snow-makin-equipment is, on site. Land .costs for the Club's one week ski package range from $630 to $830 per person (Christmas Week $945 per person land only), per week, depending on the season. Weekly Club Med group departures leave from New York, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Club vacations are open to members only. Membership js available to all. Dues are $30 per adult and $15 per child under 12 years of age, with an annual membership renewal of $25$12.
