Show BROCK KNIGHT shows excellent form in a relief pitching performance against Pleasant Grove. The young sophomore blanked the Vikings in four of the seven innings he pitched. Vikings Edge A.F. 8-7 Last Week with two outs. Dallin Allridge looped a fly ball down the right field line that got by the P.G. right fielder to score three Cavemen. Chambers, who had three hits in the game, singled to start the Viking half of the third and moved to second after Mike Bronson drew a base on balls. Hill lofted a fly into the alley in right-center right-center where the converging A.F. fielders nearly collided. The ball was dropped allowing Chambers and Bronson to score with Hill reaching third. Walker hit the ball to the right side to score Hill and P.G. led, 5-3. Three Viking errors and Kyle Hardman's two-out, bases loaded smash into centerfield sent Quinn Devereaux, Nate Oliver and Mike Davis across the plate to give A.F. the lead, 6-5. When Troy Hansen blasted a solo home run to lead off the seventh, A.F.'s fortunes looked very good. Chambers got the next hitter to fly out but walked Holland for the third time and Coach Jon Hoover brought in Don Grothe to retire the next two Cavemen. Chambers, as he eventually did three times, led off the Viking half of the inning with a base hit. In a must , situation, Bronson got hold of a curve ball and drove it deep over the left field fence to send the game into extra innings. Neither team scored in the eighth but A.F., after two outs, did load the bases. Lance Gleave singled and Grothe walked two before getting the third out on a nice play by Charlie Baldridge. Steve Warner drove in Tim Chambers with the winning run as Pleasant Grove edged American Fork, 8-7 in nine innings Thursday. Chambers had doubled to lead off the ninth and then moved to third on a wild pitch. Caveman catcher.David Holland, recovered the loose ball quickly and threw a strike to third baseman Troy Hansen. The throw had Chambers out but the ball kicked out of Hansens glove and three pitches pit-ches later, Warner pounded the ball up the middle. Chambers came home to end the extra inning game. Playing in the best spring weather to date, the teams took turns at holding the lead. In their first meeting earlier this month, A.F. won 9-8. The Vikes got on the scoreboard first when Clark Hill and Scott Walker hit back to back home runs in the second inning. In the third, A.F. loaded the bases Grothe struck out two on the ninth and picked Devereaux off first after Devereaux had singled. In fact, the difference in the game might have been A.F.'s baserunning, or lack of it. In addition to Grothes pick off play in the ninth inning, Chambers tagged out Holland as he tried to score on a short wild pitch in the first inning. Walker doubled off Gleave after the speedy Caveman shortstop rounded second and Hill threw put Allridge when he got to far off third. Those alert throwing plays by P.G. kept the Vikes in the game and set the stage for Warner's game winning hit. P.G. scored eight runs on nine hits while A.F. had 10 hits and seven runs. Grothe was the winning pitcher with Brock Knight being charged with the loss. Knight came on in the third inning to relieve Randy Doyle and had blanked P.G. for three innings before Bronson's homer. |
