Show Senior Citizens Raise Funds For Ambulance Equipment The quilts they make are queen size, 90 inches by 108 inches. They will do special orders for anyone, any size. They made a centennial cen-tennial quilt for the governor when they were chosen from among other centers in the south area of the state. This guilt had a beehive in the center and the history of the state was depicted on it, as weh Mrs. Carlson said they also made a quilt for Judge Hill who sat on the bench in the Patricia Hearst case. The senior citizens donated quilts to Viet Namese refugees when they came to Pleasant Grove. In addition, they made a quilt which was sent to Washington, D. C. to help raise funds for a convention center to be used by senior citizens. They were recognized on radio, television and in the local Washington press for this quilt. Robert Williams, of the Ambulance Association, said that the MAST suits are also used on amputations to stop bleeding and can be used as a splint. The Pleasant . Grove Senior Citizens have made and sold several quilts and will hold a drawing for another beautiful quilt to raise funds to purchase a MAST suit for the Pleasant Grove Ambulance Am-bulance Association. The group is donating $300 for Military Anti Shock Trousers for the ambulance. The inflatable trousers are put around the legs and abdomen of a patient, and when they are pumped up it forces the blood from the lower extremities to the vital organs; heart, lungs and brain- in the upper portion of the body. The trousers can raise the blood pressure just by being put on the victim. Lottie Carlson, chairman of the quilt projects for the Senior Citizens, said that a drawing will be held early in May and a lovely queen size quilt will be given away as well as prizes of several other handmade items. The senior citizens quilt every weekday from 8 a.m. til noon. Drawings on other quilts have resulted in the group donating over $500 to fix the "G" on the mountain. They have made the baby quilts used in the Pleasant Grove ambulance am-bulance and if the ambulance crews deliver a baby then the seniors make a quilt for that baby. In addition, the seniors have made lap robes for shut-ins. |
