Show Couns elling ins titute awarded grant to aid low-income families Park City Family Counseling Counsel-ing Institute has recently been awarded a $4,300 federal grant from the Utah State Department of Social Services to provide counseling counsel-ing and parent education for low-income families and single parents in Summit and Wasatch counties. Fees for services will be assessed individually based on family income and the ability to pay. "This means that a $40 an hour service can now be obtained for $5.00 an hour," says Jim Wheeler, Social Service Program Coordinator for SummitWasatch counties count-ies and Administrator for this program. Therapists Marion P. Ayers, D.S.W. and Nancy A. Bradish, M.S.W. from Park City Family Counseling will be service providers working directly with the families. "Our goal," says Dr. Ayers, "is to provide preventative preven-tative and supportive counseling coun-seling services to those who are experiencing strained family relationships and emotional em-otional discord which can threaten the success of the family unit. "Single parents," added Bradish, "are especially subjected to stress in this time of economic hardship. " "We feel fortunate to have obtained this grant," states Ayers, "because of the recent federal budget cutbacks cut-backs to Social Services, but realize that this program can act only as a stop-gap in meeting the need of a rapidly expanding population. We are therefore looking to other sources, both private and public, to gain matching funds." The program will start on January 1, 1983, and run through October 1st, at which time the Institute will re-apply to the state. Interested persons should call 649-2426 for more information. . "And it is not necessary to come to Park City for services," added Bradish, "as we will be working on a needs basis out of the Kamas, Coalville and Heber social services district offices." |
