Show Merchants Mull : Historic Guidelines At the recent Main, Street Merchants' meeting (also known as the Historic Main Street Association) the main topic of discussion was the review of the Historic District Dis-trict Commission guidelines recommendations. That portion the merchants mer-chants found most distressing distress-ing is the following quote taken from the guidelines: "The guidelines in this book encourage "modern" buildings build-ings that are compatible with historic buildings without imitating older styles." In regard to this, the Main Street Merchants issued the following statement: "The Historic Main Street Association Asso-ciation would like to go on record as being strongly opposed to the aspect of encouraging property .owners .own-ers to do "modern" 1982 style architecture within the Historic Main Street District." Dis-trict." "We would suggest that what should be build fit with the traditional architectural style of the surrounding buildings already in place." "It is the feeling of the Main Street Merchants that Park City is portrayed best as a "traditional community" with a Historic past which should be reflected in its architecture. We feel that a 1982 style architecture is aesthetically offensive for the Historic Main Street District." The next general meeting of the Main Street Merchants Mer-chants will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday,- January v 4th at 614 Main Street at Skyline Land Company. Anyone Any-one who is interested in this issue is welcome to attend this meeting, or the City Council public hearing on Thursday, January 6th at 5:00 p.m. |
