All but Wakefield, who delined to participate this year, will be judged on April 23. They have Sterling qualities by Nan Chalat Seven seniors at Park City High School (PCHS) have been selected to compete in the regional Sterling Scholar Program, said high school counselor Rich White. The students have submitted portfolios which will be judged at North Summit High School in Coalville on April 23. Chris Elkins will represent the school in the math division. He is a member of the PCHS academic decathlon team and the tennis team. He is planning to attend Stanford University in Palo Alto, California next year, he said. Robbie Smith will compete in the history and social studies division. He is currently president of the student body and also helped the academic decathlon team win second place in the state championship. He recently won the state 1A-2A math award and said he is hoping to attend Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania next fall. Lesley Rukavina will be judged in the category for general academics including math, science and English. She is a member of the National Honors Society and has applied to the University of California at Santa Barbara for admission next year. The school will be represented in the business education division by Wendy Blackbourn. She is a former vice-president of the local chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America and is currently captain of the gymnastics team. Heidi Burnett has been selected as the school's candidate in speech and drama. She is an officer of the debate team council and the stage manager for the community theater production produc-tion "Come Blow Your Horn." She has also acted in the summer Shakespeare festival in Park City. Leigh Hill will be judged in the visual arts category for which she has submitted a portfolio of artwork including photography, sculpture and pressed flowers. She is a member of the National Honors Society and president of the choral group, Voices. |
