Show Ski season comes to a streaming halt Mother Nature giveth and Mother Nature taketh away . The local ski season, which started with a bang Nov. 11 after a series : of early storms, will end with a whimper April 21 after a three-week -; heat wave that has decimated the snow base. : ' Ed Bowers, communications director for the Park City Ski Area, said Tuesday the rapidly melting snow will force the lifts to close Sunday, a ' week ahead of schedule. Deer Valley and Park West closed April 7. Temperatures in Northern Utah have been well above normal during : y April. The official temperature at the Salt Lake International Airport j Monday was a record-setting 85 degrees. j Bowers said it is now impossible to ski to the bottom of the mountain. ? However, skiers can still negotiate the top half of the mountain and ride the gondola down from the angle station. For the last few days of the season, Bowers said, the following lifts ! will be open beginning at 8:30 a.m.: Pioneer, Prospector, Thaynes, i Motherlode, and the gondola. Pioneer is scheduled to shut down at noon each day . The other lifts will operate until 2 p.m. |
