Unless otherwise noted, events listed below will take place in Salt Lake City. MOVIES Pf j Five films made by local artist Brian Patrick will be shown at the """"YrOS.' Salt Lake Art Center, 20 South West W Temple at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April tv 18. The program is free. The Hitchcock series continues at the Salt Lake City library with "Shadow of a Doubt." In this 1944 classic, Joseph Cotten is the lovable Uncle Charley who returns to his small town, where the niece who idolizes him (Teresa Wright) comes to suspect he may be the Merry W idow murderer. It plays on Friday, April 19 at 2 p. m. (for 25 cents) and 7 p.m. (for 50 cents). The library is at 209 East 500 South. Chaplin's immortal "The Gold Rush" continues a silent film series being held at the Organ Loft (3331 Edison Street.) The film, shown on April 18 at 7:30 p.m., stars Charlie Chaplin as a gold digger and features all the famous sequences Charlie eating his shoe, trapped in a cabin teetering on the edge of a crevasse, etc. At the Blue Mouse: "Brady's Escape" is a "World War II Western" starring John Savage as an Allied flier shot down over Hungary; "The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez" tells how cultural gaps and a small misunderstanding turns a simple Hispanic (Edward James Olmosy) into a fugitive; Pink Floyd's "The Wall" is a movie-length video or perhaps more than that; and "The Go Masters," a 1985 Park City Film Festival feature, shows the bond of a Japanese teacher and his Chinese student tested by World War tt The Mouse is at 260 East 100 South. The Utah Media Center presents the classic motorcycle punk fear film "The Wild One." What is Marlon Brando rebeling against? "What you got?" he asks, as his gang takes over a small town and Marlon romances a young girl. It co-stars Lee Marvin as the leader of a rival gang. The film plays on April 19 and 20 (at 7:30 p.m.) and April 21 at 5:30 and 9:30. The Center also continues the Beat series with "Kerouac" Documentary footage and fictional recreations trace his life and experience with Allen Ginsberg and Neal Cassidy. It plays on April 19 at 9:30 p.m., April 20 at 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. and April 21 at 7:30 p.m. The films play in the auditorium of the Salt Lake Art Center, at 20 South West Temple. The Utah Symphony gives its season farewell with Joseph Silverstein conducting and viola soloist Pinchas Zukerman at Symphony Hall, 123 West South Temple. Music includes Stravinsky and Berlioz for the 8 p.m. program on April 19 and 20. The Zephyr Club at 301 West South Temple presents Jack Mack and the Heart Attack on April 18-20. The Salt Lake Good Times Jazz Band, with Henry Wolking, appear April 22 in the Jazz Concert series at D.B. Cooper's (19 East Second South). The session runs 8:30 to 12:30 p.m. and is simulcast live on KUER FM for the first 90 minutes. THEATRE - 'ML Park City Performances pre- J$ IT $a,( sents Neil Simon's "Come Blow f . JT Your Horn" on April 19-20 and 25-27 at the Egyptian Theatre on Park fr City's Main Street. "Quilters," the story of pioneer women, plays at the little Bowery Theatre of Promised Valley Playhouse April 18 to 20 at 7:30 p.m. An April 20 matinee is at 2 p.m. "A Raisin in the Sun," Lorraine Hansberry's story about the dreams of a black family, appears at the U. of Utah's Pioneer Memorial Theater nightly, except Sundays, through April 24 at 8 p.m. An April 20 matinee is 2 p.m. Salt Lake's little Bowery Theater of Promised Valley Playhouse (132 South State) presents "Treasure Island." It plays Wednesday-Saturday through May 4, at 5 p.m. (on Wednesday-Thursday), 7:30 p.m. (Friday-Saturday) and a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturdays. ETCETERA a The Kimball Art Center in Park I A City hosts photographer Howard T. 1 U Rainer on the upper floor and painter I f Jeanne L Clarke in the Lower A Gallery. The exhibits run to May 2. Trevor Southey, Utah's re- tJ nowned student of the human figure, returns to the Old Town Gallery, 1101 Park Avenue in Park City, with new oils, etchings, drawings and sculptures. The exhibit runs through April 21. The Hansen Planetarium, 15 South State, is back in action with a basketful of shows. "Journey with Digistar: From the Atom to the Edge of the Universe ' plays on M onday-Friday (4 :30 and 7 p. m. ) Saturday (1 1 a.m., 2, 4:30 and 7 p.m.) and Sunday (2 and 4:30 p.m.) They are followed by the award-winning commercials, The Clios, on Monday-Friday (7:45 p.m.), Saturday (2:45, 5:15 and 7:45 p.m ) 'and Sunday (2:45 and 5:15 p.m.) Laserium presents "The Beatles: The Music That Changed the World" on Thursday-Saturday at 9 p.m. Also, "Laserock Platinum" presents the laser's greatest rock hits in a 10:15 p.m. show on Friday and Saturday. The Hansen presents Saturday star shows for children, including "Space Speak and Children's Space Library" (10:30 a.m.), "Zoom a Little Zoom" at 1 1 a.m. and "Adventures Along the Spectrum" at 2 p.m A major figure of contemporary art is saluted in ' ' Henry Moore: The Reclining Figure" at the U. of U. Utah Museum of Fine Arts.The exhibit, featuring photos, drawings and sketches of Moore's sculptures, runs through May 12. Admission is $2 or 50 cents for students seniors! A priceless collection of Chinese jade carvings is on exhibit at the Salt Lake Art Center through April 25. This rare exhibit spanning over 4,000 years, is on tour to only live cities in this hemisphere. |
