Show Reilly's All Stars take second place in Alamo basketball league standings Reilly's All Stars took sole possession posses-sion of second place in the Alamo Beer and Basketball League with a scintillating 31-29 win over., the Church of What's Happening Now Bears on Dec. 2. Reilly's improved to 6-3 and the Bears dropped to 4-5. The Bears led by 4 to 6 points for most of the game and were ahead 27-22 late in the second half. The first team to reach 30 points wins and it has to win by at least 2 points. Strongman Rick Miller and sharp- shooting Dan Larsen led the com- j eback for the All Stars, who pulled to 27-26 before the Bears found' the bucket again. "I have to credit the defense. We forced several key turnovers and kept them off the boards when we had to," captain Rich Reilly said. "It was a team effort." Reilly's ran off another three points and then a 20-foot jumper from the corner by Larsen made it 30-28. The Bears closed the gap to 1 point on a 16-footer, but a layup of a rebounded shot by Miller ended the 'game. , ..Jt was the second consecutive s come-from-behind win for the All ' Stars, who defeated the A Team 30-28 in their Nov. 27 game. : The Barbarians and Tanqueray ' Tonics remained tied for first place with 6-2 records as the Barbarians defeated Burnt Oranges 30-28 and the Tonics slipped past the A Team 30-25. The losses put the A Team at 2-6 and the Oranges at 1-7. On Dec. 4 the Tonics mixed it up with the All Stars, the Barbarians ; played the Bears and The A Team met the Burnt Oranges, but scores were unavailable at press time. On Dec. 9, the Tonics will take on the Oranges at 6 p.m., the Bears will play the A Team at 7 p.m. and Reilly's will meet the Barbarians at 8 p.m. All games are played at the Memorial Building and are free to the public. |
