Show P.C. high school test scores top the nationwide average byJIMSMEDLEY Record staff writer Park City High School students who took the American College Testing exam surpassed the national averages for college prep and non-college non-college prep students in every category. The test was taken Oct. 26 by 14 seniors and juniors. Academic career counselor Jerry Fiat said it was the first time the juniors had taken the test and the second time for many of the seniors, who also took the test last June as juniors. The testing center provided statistics on college prep students for the first time this year. "We're very pleased and actually surprised by the results because we felt last year's seniors were one of our best classes," said Principal Jack Dozier. "We do have high expectations ex-pectations of our kids and we're blessed with a highly competent staff. It all comes down to how good the instruction is. Park City students had a composite com-posite fiverage of 22.2 out of a possi-, possi-, ble 36 points while the college prep national average was 21 and the non- , college prep student national average was 17.2. The students showed the biggest margin over their peers in social studies' and science, where they averaged 22.4 and 24.7 respectively. The national college prep average was 19.8 for social studies and 23.6 for. science, while the non-college prep national average was 16 for social studies and 19.8 for science. The Park City averages for English and math were 20.4 and 20.5 respectively, while the prep national averages were 19.8 and 20.3 for the same subjects. The non-college prep students' national average was 17.2 , for English and 15.4 for math. The June 1985 test results for 17 Park City High School juniors were: English 18.94; math 18.94; science 22.23 and social studies 19.70. : ;.i 1 v .... |
