Show City calls a halt to resort bus stop by RICK BROUGH Record staff writer After meeting with city officials,. The Resort Center operators at the Park City Ski Area have abandoned a bus drop-off plan that the operators instituted last month. The center has returned to the original traffic plan approved by the city, which has the buses pull into a turn-in lane near the entrance to Resort Center businesses. This lane is separated by an island from Lowell Avenue, the two-way street in front of the resort. The new plan, instituted in early November, had buses stop on Lowell Avenue by the island, said city director direc-tor of transportation Kae Draper. She was notified about the desired change by Gene Donovan, president of The Resort Center's parent firm, Prudential Financial Services. The Center asked for the change, she said, because the turn-in lane , was not a good place for tour buses to stop. However, city officials said the new stop snarled traffic on Lowell Avenue. City attorney Tom Clyde " said the island was not big enough to hold Waiting passengers and crowds spilled onto the two-way street. The city monitored the situation over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, then met Monday with representatives of The Resort Center. To solve the tour-bus problem, Clyde said the city will try to provide parking areas for the coaches near the entrances to the resort. Another change will be instituted for cars, which now park at the bus island. Cars will only be allowed to park there for loading and unloading, Draper said, and drivers must remain in the cars. |
