Show Junior nordic racers start season Saturday by Nan Chalat The Park City Junior Nordic Ski Team will begin its season this weekend on home turf. Saturday and Sunday the young racers will compete against teams from Pine Dale, Lander and Jackson, Wyoming and Pocatello and Sun Valley, Idaho in the first Junior Olympic qualifying races of the 1984-85 season. Saturday the teams will match strides on the Park Meadows Golf Course at noon. The five age divisions will participate in 2, 4, and 6 kilometer races. Sunday, the teams will compete in a second round at the White Pine Touring Center beginning at 10 a.m. Although the former coach of the Park City team, Al Bronston, moved to California this summer, the team is looking forward to a strong season. Parent organizers and experienced volunteer coaches have stepped in and six of the team's eight members are returnees. v Mike Richards, Megan Holcomb, Holly Hunter,? Heidi Hunter, Abby Peterson , and Tony Chambers are now seasoned veterans. Eric Fritz is new to the Park Citv team but has experience with the junior nordic team in Helena, Montana. Chris Totze is the rookie on the team and, at 11 years of age, is also the " youngest. The team's roster is open to any youngster of middle school or high school age, said parent organizer Ann Fritz. Membership is $25 for the season and includes weekly practice sessions with volunteers from the ' U.S. Ski Team, Turner Competition Services and White Pine Touring Center. "This weekend's races are open to any junior age kids who are interested," said Fritz. "It's a good chance to see if you want to join the team because the race is at home," she added. Any interested participants who are not already registered should arrive one hour before the start to get their bib numbers. Entry fees for ages 13 and under are $4 for one day, $7 for two days.
