To avoid confusion with the Main Street clothing store they altered their name to Park Avenue Rose, but for the most part the store still will carry what the owners know and like best finely-crafted interior decor, from inlaid wood-and-glass coffee tables to brass lamps and porcelain vases. "We have gifts and accessories for the home that come from all over the world," said Janie Arnold, who has been an interior decorator for 15 years. Park Avenue Rose currently is displaying an enameled rice paper chest from China, sand-casted brass pitchers and pots from Italy and a whole line of blue-and-green delft porcelain from the Netherlands. The Arnolds also like to showcase the work of such American craftsmen as John Rogers. It is Rogers who is responsible for the shop's display of glass-encased coffee tables containing contain-ing elaborate still lifes of wild birds. "He has 35 years of experience and we think his work is beautiful," said Stephen Arnold. The wildlife theme also is carried out in a series of limited-edition aquatints, hand-carved and -painted decoys, and an imaginative set of glass racks and coat racks, each supported by a wooden Canada A new interior decor shop, Park Avenue Rose, in the Park Hotel, specializes in unique hand crafted accessories for the home. photo by Nan chaiat goose. The Arnolds said they have taken special care to consider masculine tastes in their merchandise. After operating stores in Breckenridge, Colorado and Estes Park, both ski resort towns, they said they have seen enough unhappy men disinterestedly dis-interestedly following their spouses around resort boutiques. "We go to market together and Stephen lends the masculine viewpoint. view-point. We don't want the men to suffer when they shop here," said Janie Arnold. In keeping with this philosophy Park Avenue Rose carries mahogany coffee tables and a line of animal etchings on suede "that would look great in a man's den or office," suggested Janie Arnold. Prices in the shop vary from $2.98 for a tiny porcelain charm to $4,500 for some of the larger pieces of furniture. And Janie is available to offer professional decorating ideas. Park Avenue Rose is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 12:30 p.m. to 6 ' p.m. Sundays. |
