Show --7Hp A t t "."'jr.' Equalization process begins at Strawberry, Soldier Creek Tliu spillway flashboards at historic Strawberry Dam were removed ' on Jan. K to begin the equalization of the levels of Strawberry and Soldier Creek Reservoirs, according to Upper Colorado Regional Director Clif ford Barrett of the Bureau of Reclamation. . . ' The lH-iiich-high flashboards, also called stop logs, had beeil'in place to retain additional water in Strawberry Reservoirs. Removal of the flashboards allows that stored water to flow into Soldier Creek To complete the second step in the process, the Indian Creek Diversion Canal later breached, permitting approximately 12 cubic feel of water per second, which had been flowing into Strawberry Reservoir, to flow directly into Soldier Creek. These steps are part of a plan to make one enlarged reservoir from the existing reservoirs. Strawberry Reservoir level will drop three to six feet and Soldier Creek could rise from 10 to 13 feet. Because of the fluctuation of me two reservoirs during this equalization process, caution should be exercised around the reservoirs. The ice surfaces of bull reservoirs may be unstable, Barrett said. |
