Show They're pleased with P.C. vacations Editor: I have just received the issue of the Jan. 10 Park Record, with all the retractions and apologies. However, I feel that all this is a bit late, since all the people who were insulted by these articles are no longer in Park City, and probably 99 percent of them do not subscribe to your paper. I am a subscriber, since I own a condo in ParkWest and like to read about what's going on in town. We were in Park City Dec. 22-29 and had a fabulous time. Everyone we encountered - in church, on the street, in the shops, and on the slopes were very friendly and helpful. Even when we have visited there in the summer we have been most pleased with our vacation, and when leaving we start planning our next trip. I have recommended Park City to so many people; I only hope that none of them read the aforementioned afore-mentioned articles. I feel that Teri Gomes' article caused more damage than Randy Hanskat's article. I usually look on the "For the Record" question as a joke, as the answers are usually either funny or downright stupid. Since Ms. Gomes' employment employ-ment was not terminated, I feel that it was unfair to terminate Mr. Hanskat. Maybe some "shuffling around" should be done in the department which approves the articles which are submitted. Since your paper only comes out once a week, certainly there is some time for someone to read over the articles1 . and consult the editor if there is any question of diplomacy. I suggest that the Park Record obtain a list of all visitors to Park City during the "fatal" week, and do some type of mass mailing thanking them for visiting the town, and hoping they'll return in the near future. You owe this not only to the Chamber of Commerce and the Main Street business, but also to those of us who own property in your city. ' Judy Hoffmann Westlake Village, California P.S. One of the highlights of our Christmas vacation was "THIS is the Place," From all the cheers in the tneater, we knew that visitors to Park City enjoy laughing at themselves; however, we do not 1 enjoy being told we are an inconvenience to the town that relies on tourism. |
