Show Kamas, Rec. Dept. battle for first ' in league basketball Kamas Valley and the Park City Recreation Department were the only undefeated teams after two weeks of play in the men's basketball league. The Recreation Department team made it 2-0 Jan. 15 by toasting Texas Red's 55-32 while Kamas kept pace by rolling over Cofer 72-53. In the third game Jan. 15 the Alamo defeated the YarrowHoliday Inn 56-49. Rick Widdison was the leading scorer for the Recreation Department Depart-ment with 16 points while Fred Grambeau tallied 12 for Texas Red's. Grambeau and his teammates kept the game close in the first half. However, when one of Texas Red's players was ejected in the second half, it left his team without any substitutes. The tide slowly swung in favor of the Recreators. Kamas had four players in double figures in its win over Cofer. Kerry Lambert was the leading scorer with 18 points while. Dave Whisheen added 17. Willie Pearson topped the Cofer scoring with 25 points with Bob Scheinblum, the old man of the team at 42, adding 14 points. "I bet Kamas shot 65 or 70 percent," basketball commissioner Mike Osher said later. "They just weren't missing." In the game between the Alamo and the Yarrow, Rick Miller, a recent import from Wisconsin, was the high man with 23 points. Jimmy Austin had 13 points and Jack Bumett added 11. The Yarrow, equipped with a strong guard line but little height among its forwards, got 18 points from Ken Kester. The standings at the end of the second week found Kamas and the Recreation Department tied for first with 2-0 records. The Alamo and Texas Red's were tied for third at 1-1 while Cofer Chiropractic and Yarrow occupied the cellar with 0-2 records. |
