Show John Denver to start ParkWest series He's the Rocky Mountains incarnate. He's tall pines and sparkling streams. John Denver is considered Mr. Natural High himself, so of course he will kick off the Park City concert series under the mountains of ParkWest Ski Resort. Denver will appear at a Saturday, July 7 concert at 2 p.m. The series, co-sponsored by Pepsi and PM Magazine, features four other acts this summer. Denver is followed by Berlin and Talk Talk on July 9, America and Poco on July 24, The Beach Boys on Aug. 2, and Jimmy Buffet on Aug. 10. Denver gained fame in the early 1970s with "Take Me Home, Country Roads," and soon became one of the major stars of the decade. He promoted the mountain life with "Sunshine on My Shoulder" and "Rocky Mountian High." Other hits included "Annie's Song," "Calypso," "Calyp-so," "Thank God I'm a Country Boy," "Grandma's Feather Bed," and even "You Done Tore My Heart and Ya Stoped That Sucker Flat." Denver has long been regarded as a national symbol. In 1972, he hosted a late-night music special urging newly-enfranchised young people to vote. (It later became a series, as "The Midnight Special.") He appeared at this year's Winter Olympics. A world-wide Denver fan club not only follows his music but shares his interest in nature and energy conservation. He has starred in numerous TV specials and scored a movie hit with George Burns in "Oh, God!" The program is a United Concerts production. Concert goers are reminded not to bring coolers, containers, alcohol, cameras or recorders. |
